As I sit here, I can not hold back the tears any longer. Several days ago our Jezebel got into rat poison, she threw it up, but it seems that not all of it got out of her system. For 3 days we watched her, hoping for the best, but yesterday, she had trouble walking, and today, I am watching her die.
She is just a dog! And she is the spunkiest and most annoying of the three.
But, watching her slowly fade, is difficult. Her body is giving out, but in her eyes, I can see so much sadness! She is mentally holding on.
Sam & Delilah, our other two, have not left her side, as if they know her fate. I even caught Delilah yelling (barking) at her, as if to tell her to fight it out.
She is just a dog!
But, I would not wish a slow death, even on a dog!

ohhhh, that's terrible! how are your children doing?
ooooh! watching a pet die - even if it wasn't a beloved one - is awful. i'm so sorry this had happened. we've had to experience the same thing too many times for me NOT to feel your pain.
I'm sorry, Janal. We went thru something similar with a fox terrier and antifreeze many years ago. It is so hard to watch.
Update~ She is still holding on. I thought for sure, she would be gone when I awoke this morning.
Last night before bed, I kneeled down beside her, comforting her, assuring her that she was loved, and telling her good by. Although, I have yet to hear her make a noise, her eyes appeared to be filled with pain. As tears and snot ran down my face, I am hoping none of the kids will come in and see me in such a mess, and then comes Abby... as I am trying to wipe the evidence from my face, Abby kneels down beside me, places her hand on my back, and prays: "God will you please heal Jezebel, I know you can perform miracles, I hope that you will give her a miracle."
I have already told the kids that she will probably not make it. But, what a blessing it was to have my 9 year come beside me, place her hands on me and pray. WOW!
And, to add a little good news, I just got Jezebel to drink some infant formula (3 oz), which is huge, because she has not had anything to eat, and has had very small amounts of water.
I don't know which part of the story I like best . . . the part where Jezebel is actually getting better, or the part where Abby prays for a miracle. So cool.
Hi...
You know, I'm praying for the dog as well! I'll bet Jezebel could sense the empathy pouring out from you! Dogs always want to be there and help their owner and all she could do was lay there. She is ornery and fiesty, but such a cutie. I would love to see little Abby's prayer answered!

As of today, Saturday, Jezebel is still alive. She aborted her 5 babies on Wednesday. Thursday night we were able to get some penicillin into her, which made a huge difference in her Friday morning, she ate a full bowl of food,(she has not had "real food in 5-6 days, other than the baby formula) and even wanted to go outside and go potty by herself, which is good because I was starting to wonder if her back legs were paralyzed because she would not use them. I "think" she might make it!(?) ~ I say this because how does a little dog eat something that is meant to kill, and even looks like death, and is now coming back from that? Prayer~ I believe Abby's prayer made a difference. It is just a dog, but God cares even in the "little" things.
