OK, now we can have a good discussion... I like this atmosphere much better, LOL! First, can you define what you mean by "legalistic?" For a lot of people this is a negative word that carries the idea of a person trying to be saved by works rather that by the sacrifice of Christ. So it is hard to assign that label to Christ Himself. So could you clarify just a little, so that we know exactly what you're asking?

My "quick" answer~ someone who follows the law.

But because I am not a dictionary, I looked it up at dictionary.com...

–noun

1.strict adherence, or the principle of strict adherence, to law or prescription, esp. to the letter rather than the spirit.

2.Theology.
a.the doctrine that salvation is gained through good works.
b.the judging of conduct in terms of adherence to precise laws.

Hey, you are suppose to be answering the question, not asking questions!

Quick answer to your quick answer: Jesus kept the law. Well, more accurately, He always did the will of the Father.

Heb 10:7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’
Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” (And many others that I'm sure you know.)

When Jesus walked the earth, he did not keep all of the OT laws, at least not the way that the people of that day interpreted them. When He was accused of not keeping the law, He did not necessarily always question their interpretation, but rather just gave the idea that He was the Lord of it all.

Heals on the Sabbath: Matthew 12:9-14, Luke 13:10-17

Work on the Sabbath: Matt 12:1-8

Touches a leper: (laws are in Lev 13.) Luke 5:12-16

Jesus not only broke these laws in their eyes, but allowed others to do so, in the case of picking food to eat on the Sabbath.

All of this (this is part of the long answer, not the short:) to say that I think "keeping the law" is a very sketchy subject. It is always interpreted differently by different people. Even in the case of Jesus there are those (few) Christians that would say that Jesus didn't keep the law perfectly because of instances like what I just mentioned.

I prefer to say that Jesus pleased the Father and calls on us to do the same. The life-long mission is to find out what that means! For me, the quickest way is to meditate on what Jesus said about the law here,

Matt:22"37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Now, the life-long mission becomes, what does true love of God and neighbor look like?

Also, I will say that it was the "rule-keepers" of His day that hated Him, and that He had the sharpest rebukes for. It was the licentious ones or the "filthy" sinners that He spent most of His time with, and who probably were the bulk of His followers. Tax collectors, prostitutes, etc. Of course, they were not allowed, nor did they desire, to stay in those lifestyles after being touched by Jesus. But I don't think He advised them to become like the "rule-keeper" Pharisees, either.

OK, so I didn't really answer the question, because I can't, AND because I am wrestling with these very issues myself! But those are some of my thoughts. I am anxiously awaiting your insights, and any others who decide to join in!

Read it, but do not wait too anxiously for my response, I am still waiting to hear from others first, but glad you responded, it is nice to know where your thoughts are, especially when I could be misunderstanding things that have been said.

Jenny~ I like that!

Anyways just a quick note to let you all know that I plan on giving my thoughts, but have been consumed with many forms of business, and I can not be on here long, Cleyo calls for my attention, but hopefully I can come on here tomorrow and share my thoughts, well not really mine, I tend to get my thoughts from someone else's thoughts that I believe match up with scripture the best.

Anyone get that? Tired or too much sugar today, lol!

NO! That is my answer!

HaHa! So I think I am funny!

Anyways.............

I do have something to say, not much, because in NO way do I think that I have a gift of teaching. I am just a girl, trying to know my God better, so that I can be more like Christ. So If I say something that you do not agree with, or comes out wrong, please pray for me, that God would speak Truth to me, and that I would be sensitive to listen to it.

Well, I was going to put my thoughts here, but I am going to just write a whole new post, that will be easier to read maybe?

Anyways, check back in a little while, and if you have further thoughts that you would like to add, or something else to share, please do so.
